Are any apartments handicap accessible?

Yes, all apartments are filled from our waiting list. Please note, just because your name is on the list does not mean you have been approved for residency. We begin the verification process when you name gets closer to the top of the list. There is one single waiting list for the developments. Within the list, it is divided by unit size to determine who is offered the next available unit.

All applicants are required to present an original Social Security card and birth certifcate for all household members during the application process. Adults 18 years and older must also present photo ID.

Water, sewer and trash are included in all apartments. Residents receive a utility allowance that is sent to the utility companies on behalf of the resident. The Hosmer and Brewster High-rise residents only pay electric. Residents at Parkside and Westview apartments will pay for their electric and gas.

Brewster and Hosmer High-rises provide blinds on their windows (this may be subject to a charge). Parkside and Westview apartments do not provide window furnishings.

Ranges and Refrigerators are provided in all apartments.

To find your position on the waiting list, please call the main offices at 815-232-4171 extension 1010. We ask that you place a call once a month. If your position changes within the time frame to the top of the list, the Resident Selection Coordinator will be placing a call to you to congratulate you on your position status moving up and at that time an appointment will be made for you to come and complete the second application.

In order to be considered for public housing, you must be income eligible and meet our established resident guidelines. Various factors play into our decision-making process; however, we understand each situation is unique. That is why we try to look at the big picture for each applicant and understand his or her unique circumstance. Please keep in mind that a background check and information from previous landlords will all be considered during this process. The Head of Household, Co-Head, or Spouse must be eligible and able to get the required utilities in their name to lease an apartment. The utility companies for this areas are Commonwealth Edison (Com-Ed) electric service and Nicor gas service.

Yes, but acceptance is dependent on several factors. There are some offenses that cause a lifetime ban for living in public housing. Other factors that affect your ability to live with us include, but are not limited to, the nature of the offense, when the last offense occurred and how long you have been off probation or parole.

Yes, please call and report when you have a change of phone number, address, job position, schooling or other income. Also, please call and withdraw your application if you are no longer in need of assistance with housing. Note: If this information is not updated this will be cause of withdrawing your application per your understanding and signature on the Pre-application.

Hosmer and Brewster High-rises have P-Tac units in each apartment that works as an air conditiner when needed; Parkside and Douglas Village apartments have central air and the other family units provide their own air conditioners.
